Disney’s live-action Moana is set to arrive on Disney+ on Wednesday, October 21, giving the musical adventure a new streaming release after its cinema debut earlier this year.

Disney confirmed the date in an October 13 update and an official streaming announcement video. Catherine Laga’aia plays Moana, while Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui, the character he voiced in the animated films.

The story follows Moana as she leaves her island home of Motunui, ventures beyond the reef and joins Maui on a journey to restore prosperity to her people. The film opened in cinemas on July 10, 2026.

Thomas Kail directs the adaptation. The cast also includes John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, with Jemaine Clement returning as the voice of Tamatoa.

Music remains central to the production. The film features songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina, with Mancina also composing the score. Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the animated films, serves as an executive producer on the live-action version.

Disney has also released an official trailer, allowing audiences to preview the cast, ocean setting and musical sequences before the streaming launch.

The October 21 announcement should not be read as confirmation of availability in every country. Disney notes that its platform and content availability vary by region, so viewers should check the service’s local catalogue.
