President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to address the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York today, Thursday, September 24, 2026, as Ghana joins other countries to present their positions on major global issues.
The President is expected to deliver Ghana’s national statement at around 2:00 p.m. during the General Debate.
This year’s debate is being held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”
President Mahama’s address will come after several engagements with international leaders and senior officials since arriving in New York for the high-level UN meetings.
He has held discussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and other international stakeholders on matters including trade, economic cooperation, regional security and strengthening Africa’s role in international affairs.
The President has also used the UN programme to advance discussions on the Accra Reset, particularly the need for African countries to build greater capacity to meet their healthcare requirements without excessive dependence on external sources.
Ahead of his UN appearance, President Mahama stepped up Ghana’s investment campaign in the United States.
On Wednesday, September 23, he rang the closing bell at the Nasdaq Stock Market in New York, in an event aimed at showcasing Ghana to the international business community.
Ghana was also promoted on the Nasdaq billboard in Times Square with the message, “Ghana Is Open for Business.”
Speaking at the U.S.–Ghana Presidential Roundtable later in the day, President Mahama urged investors to consider the opportunities available in Ghana.
He pointed to the country’s natural-resource base, highlighting cocoa, gold and manganese among the commodities produced in Ghana.
The President said these resources form part of the wider opportunities available to investors and called for increased business cooperation between Ghana and the United States.
