Former NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko, says the party can reclaim power in 2028 if it succeeds in resolving its internal divisions and rebuilding its grassroots structures.
Mr Afoko made the comments during his campaign engagements with party delegates in the Western, Central and Eastern Regions as he seeks another term as National Chairman.
He said his immediate priority would be to bring the various factions within the party together and strengthen its organisation ahead of the next general election.
Mr Afoko is campaigning on a three-pronged blueprint he calls the 3Rs — Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture Power.
Addressing constituency executives, he expressed confidence that the NPP could spend only two years in opposition if the party united behind his leadership.
He argued that the party already has the structures and support base needed for a return to government, but must first overcome its internal challenges.
Mr Afoko also promised to focus on the grassroots by strengthening constituency and polling-station structures and restoring confidence among party supporters.
He is currently touring the regions as part of his campaign ahead of the NPP National Chairman election, scheduled for October 3 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
