The High Court is set to hear a bail application filed on behalf of senior nursing officer Salomey Awity Baffoe, who is facing a charge of abetment of crime in connection with the publication of alleged false news.
The application, filed on Friday, will be heard on Wednesday, September 23, at 9 a.m. at the High Court Complex.
Baffoe’s lawyer, Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah, says the legal team is confident the court will grant the application and allow his client to return home to her children.
Her lawyer argued that there is no justification for keeping Baffoe in custody, insisting that the police investigation has effectively been completed.
Baffoe was remanded by the Adentan Circuit Court on September 18 for two weeks after pleading not guilty to the charge.
Police allege that she assisted Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, whom they identify as the operator of the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account, to distribute videos and recruit others to circulate the content.
Kodua is believed to be in the United Kingdom.
According to the Police, forensic analysis of Baffoe’s mobile phone, including audio and video files, as well as mobile money records, revealed alleged financial connections between the two women.
The defence, however, maintains that there is no outstanding investigation that requires Baffoe to remain in custody.
The case is expected to return to the Adentan Circuit Court on September 28 as proceedings continue.
The High Court’s ruling on the bail application will determine whether Baffoe remains in custody or is released pending further proceedings.
