York pleaded no contest to charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. Court records show he received one day in jail for each offence, with both sentences running at the same time. He was given credit for time already served and fined a total of $1,150.
The case was filed by the East Palestine Police Department at Columbiana County Municipal Court. According to reports in the United States, York allegedly responded to an online advertisement created by undercover officers from an Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force.
Court documents reportedly stated that York arranged to engage in sexual activity in exchange for $140. As part of a plea agreement, the original charge was reduced. The criminal tools charge is believed to relate to the phone used in the communication.
The case has drawn attention because of York’s standing in sport. Through 49ers Enterprises, he became a key figure at Leeds United, helping guide the club from the Championship to Premier League stability after a full takeover in 2023.
York also became a co-owner of Rangers after a consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises secured a controlling stake in the Scottish club in May 2025. The investment brought fresh hope to supporters eager to see Rangers challenge Celtic both domestically and in Europe.
For now, there is no indication that York’s position at Rangers or Leeds will change. However, his role as owner of the San Francisco 49ers places him under the NFL’s personal conduct policy, which could bring further scrutiny.
