Tottenham have completed the signing of Sávio from Manchester City in a deal worth up to £85 million, giving Roberto De Zerbi another exciting weapon as Spurs push to build a stronger squad.
The 22-year-old Brazilian had been on Tottenham’s radar for more than a year. Now, after a long pursuit, Sávio is finally wearing the famous white shirt.
“It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here,” Sávio said.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.”
The winger also revealed that his conversation with De Zerbi played a key role in his decision.
“As soon as I spoke to the head coach I knew I had to come,” he added. “He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team.”
Sávio arrives with experience of playing at the highest level, despite having limited opportunities at Manchester City. He made 53 appearances for the club after joining from Troyes in 2024, scoring twice and providing 12 assists.
At City, he was known as ‘Savinho’, the nickname printed on his shirts. At Tottenham, however, he will simply be Sávio.
For De Zerbi, the attraction is clear. The Italian coach believes the Brazilian can bring speed and unpredictability to the wide areas.
“Sávio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions,” De Zerbi said. “He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity.”
The signing also solves an immediate problem. Spurs lacked natural attacking options in their Premier League opener against Brentford, with 19-year-old academy graduate Mikey Moore starting on the right wing.
Sávio’s arrival takes Tottenham’s summer spending beyond £300 million. Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke have also arrived, while Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dúbravka joined as free agents.
Tottenham have also raised significant funds through player sales. With Sávio now added to the attack, De Zerbi has another player capable of turning tight matches in Spurs’ favour.
