The Ministry of Defence has unveiled a cenotaph in memory of the late former Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, as part of efforts to preserve his legacy and inspire future generations of public servants.
The memorial was unveiled at a ceremony attended by President John Dramani Mahama, who served as the guest of honour, Burkina Faso’s Minister for War and Patriotic Defence, Major General Salif Simporé, senior members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and family members of the late minister.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Defence Minister Dr Ernest Brogya Genfi said the cenotaph was not created to glorify Dr Omane Boamah but to reflect his values of service, humility and patriotism.
According to him, the late Defence Minister was a person who placed duty above recognition and would likely have rejected any attempt to celebrate him in a manner that elevated him above others.
Dr Brogya Genfi said the memorial would serve as a source of inspiration for military personnel, civilian staff and public officials who come across it, encouraging them to uphold the same commitment and sense of responsibility demonstrated by Dr Omane Boamah.
The Deputy Minister expressed hope that the memorial would continue to remind future generations of the importance of selfless service and dedication to national development.
