A medical doctor has sued three major hospitals, several healthcare workers and the Attorney General over the death of her brother following an accident in Accra, alleging negligence and failure to provide emergency care.

Matilda Amissah, acting as administratrix of the estate of her late brother, Charles Henry Amissah, is seeking GH¢20 million in damages at the High Court of Ghana.

The suit names the Ghana Police Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, several doctors and nurses, as well as the Attorney General’s Department.

According to the suit, the 29-year-old engineer was involved in a hit-and-run accident on the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Overpass on February 6, 2026, and was transported between hospitals after medical personnel allegedly cited lack of bed space.

The plaintiff claims that despite appeals from ambulance personnel for emergency treatment, the victim was denied immediate care and later died at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after suffering cardiac arrest.

Dr. Amissah argues that her brother could have survived if prompt medical intervention had been provided.

The lawsuit follows findings by a government-appointed committee chaired by Agyeman Badu Akosa, which concluded that failures by medical personnel contributed to the engineer’s death.

The committee also cited lapses in emergency response procedures and recommended disciplinary action against some healthcare professionals involved.
