The Accra High Court has granted bail to Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, in the sum of GH¢30 million as legal proceedings surrounding his extradition continue.

The court ordered that the bail be secured by two sureties, both of whom must justify their financial standing. The ruling represents a major development in the case, allowing the accused temporary release after spending months in custody.

The decision was confirmed on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, by his lawyer, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, in a social media post announcing that his client had successfully met the conditions for bail set by the court.

Abu Trica’s release comes after multiple attempts by his defence team to challenge the legal basis of the extradition proceedings and secure his freedom pending the determination of the case.

While the bail offers temporary relief, the court is expected to impose additional conditions, including periodic reporting requirements and possible restrictions on travel, as the case progresses.

Legal observers say the ruling does not resolve the extradition matter but rather provides the defence with greater flexibility to prepare its case outside detention, potentially strengthening its constitutional and procedural arguments.

The case has attracted significant public attention, largely due to Abu Trica’s high-profile presence on social media and his previously publicised display of wealth. This has fueled ongoing public debate, with allegations linking his lifestyle to proceeds from cyber fraud.

However, his legal team maintains that such claims must be proven in court, stressing that the burden of evidence lies with the prosecution as the case unfolds.
