Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has announced his intention to contest for the position of National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when nominations are opened.

In a press statement addressed to party members, Dr. Abdul-Hamid said his decision follows persistent appeals from the grassroots of the party, urging him to contribute his experience and institutional knowledge toward rebuilding the NPP.

He described the calls as a strong appeal to serve, noting that he had given them careful consideration before deciding to step forward.

According to him, his ambition is driven not by personal gain but by a commitment to give back to the party that has shaped his political career.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid traced his involvement with the NPP to its early days, revealing that he was a founding member of the New Patriotic Party University of Cape Coast Branch in 1992.

He also recalled being present at Victoria Park Cape Coast during the historic transition from the Danquah-Busia Club to the NPP on May 18, 1992.

Over the years, he has contested for several key positions within the party, including National Organiser in 2001 and General Secretary in 2005, though he was unsuccessful in both attempts.

Despite these setbacks, he emphasised his continued dedication to the party, including serving as spokesperson for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for a decade and later as Deputy National Campaign Manager during the 2020 general elections.
