Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called on African countries to deepen unity and regional integration as a pathway to shared prosperity and sustained economic growth across the continent.
Speaking at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues on Wednesday, February 4, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged governments to adopt coordinated long-term and medium-term development policies that support continental integration.
She also emphasized the need to strengthen development finance institutions and roll out large-scale regional projects that reflect Africa’s collective ambitions.
According to her, greater unity would enable African entrepreneurs and manufacturers to see the continent as a single, interconnected market rather than a collection of fragmented economies, unlocking vast opportunities for trade, investment, and industrial growth.
She further encouraged policymakers and business leaders to prioritise initiatives that promote cross-border collaboration and accelerate regional economic integration.
“We must continue to integrate our borders. Africa must unite. This is not about erasing sovereignty; it is about organising our sovereignty in service of shared prosperity and our market,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said.
