Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has reaffirmed the unwavering support of the 87 Minority Members of Parliament for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He made the declaration during a courtesy visit by the Minority Caucus in Parliament to Dr Bawumia, following his re-election on Saturday as the party’s presidential candidate.
Addressing Dr Bawumia, Mr Afenyo-Markin assured him that the Minority Caucus remains fully aligned with his vision and committed to advancing his agenda through their work in Parliament.

“If we don’t push your agenda, nobody else’s agenda can go through. It is very clear in our minds that we need to push this agenda. As your caucus, we have also undertaken to regularly engage your office on every action we take for direction,” he stated.
The Minority Leader further called for unity and collective effort among Members of Parliament, stressing that cohesion is critical to the party’s future electoral success.
“I want to say this in the presence of the flagbearer: in 2017, we were 169 MPs, and today we are 87. Our duty is to lift those numbers by 2028, and we can only achieve that through a collective spirit. Individualism can only spell our doom,” he said.
He urged party members to remain focused and disciplined, cautioning against internal divisions. “Let us stay committed to that cause, limit whispers in the corridors, and focus on the party. If the flagbearer is expected to do it all alone, there will be no success,” Mr Afenyo-Markin added.
