The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has strongly criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, accusing it of failing to fulfil key campaign pledges and misusing state authority.

Speaking on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the launch of the NPP’s amended constitution, Kodua said Ghanaians entrusted the NDC with an “overwhelming mandate” in the 2024 elections with hopes that the party would tackle illegal mining, uphold ethical leadership, and enhance national security. However, nearly a year into the administration, he argued, those expectations have not been met.

Kodua claimed that illegal mining—galamsey—has worsened, describing it as an “existential threat” to Ghana’s environment. He further alleged that state institutions were being weaponised to intimidate political opponents and silence critical journalists.

“We have witnessed escalating abuse of incumbency and state-sponsored intimidation of political opponents in the media,” he said.

He also criticised what he called a pattern of using nolle prosequi to free NDC members facing trial for alleged embezzlement, and accused the government of attempting to manipulate state institutions, including efforts to seize parliamentary seats won by the NPP.

Kodua further charged the government with interfering in the judiciary, citing the controversial removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo as evidence.

“Unfortunately, the judiciary, which is supposed to be the last vanguard of the rule of law, has sadly been captured by the executive,” he claimed. “Today, in Ghana, judges fear delivering justice according to the law because they fear they will also suffer the same consequences as Justice Torkonoo did.”
