The Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and former Deputy Finance Minister, Abena Osei Asare, has dismissed allegations that the Akufo-Addo government mismanaged Ghana’s economy.

Speaking in an interview with Accra based Channel One TV, Mrs. Osei Asare credited the government’s economic performance to sound management despite global challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Responding to claims by the Mahama administration that the economy was mismanaged under Akufo-Addo, she highlighted key economic indicators such as inflation and GDP growth.

“Every era has its context, but in 2022, inflation was 54%, and by the time we were leaving office in 2024, we reduced it to 23.8%. We inherited a growth rate of 3.6% but left it at 5.7%. In 2016, GDP was around 219 billion, and we reached 1 trillion GDP,” she stated.

Mrs. Osei Asare argued that these figures reflect prudent management and effectively refute claims that the economy was in disarray during the Akufo-Addo administration.
