Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has pledged the Government’s renewed commitment to addressing key developmental challenges facing the Mamponteng Municipality, with particular focus on the stalled Mamponteng Jubilee Market project.
Her assurance follows mounting appeals from residents and traders for the resumption of construction on the market, which was initiated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration in 2013 but has since been left incomplete.
According to the Kwabre East Municipal Assembly, the abandoned structure has deteriorated over time and now serves as a hideout for criminal elements—posing a serious security threat to the local community.
Touring the site on Monday, September 29, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the concerns of residents and expressed the Government’s determination to mobilise resources to see the project through to completion.
“We need to explore all possible avenues to secure funding for the completion of the market,” she stated. “Let us come together to build the country in peace, and we will gradually complete all outstanding projects.”
In addition to addressing infrastructure concerns, the Vice President also emphasized the importance of education in the municipality, pledging that the needs of schoolchildren in the area would be given priority.
“The education of our children needs to be prioritised,” she affirmed.
Her visit forms part of a broader government effort to engage communities directly and ensure that stalled and abandoned projects across the country are revisited and completed in a timely manner.
