The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has raised the stakes for the 2025/26 Premier League, announcing a record GHC2 million reward for the champions in a bold move to drive competition and raise standards across the league.
The announcement came during the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. Delegates from across the football community gathered to set the tone for a season that promises drama, ambition, and higher stakes than ever before.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku outlined the new prize structure, designed to not only crown the champions but to reward excellence throughout the table. This year, the top 15 clubs will share in a significant financial pool, ensuring even mid-table finishes come with meaningful rewards.
The winners will take home GHC2 million, with the runners-up receiving GHC1 million. Third place will earn GHC800,000, fourth GHC750,000, and fifth GHC700,000. The structure then rewards sixth place with GHC650,000, seventh with GHC600,000, eighth with GHC550,000, and ninth with GHC500,000. Tenth will receive GHC450,000, eleventh GHC400,000, twelfth GHC350,000, thirteenth GHC300,000, fourteenth GHC250,000, and fifteenth GHC200,000.
The 2025/26 season kicks off on September 12, with clubs already deep in preparations. From perennial contenders to ambitious underdogs, the prize money boost has shifted the conversation from survival to silverware.
The GFA sees this as more than a financial incentive. Simeon-Okraku described it as part of a wider strategy to enhance the league’s commercial value, strengthen club sustainability, and motivate players and coaches to consistently deliver top performances.
With greater rewards on the line, teams will be driven to fight for every point. The ripple effect could mean tighter races, packed stadiums, and a more compelling spectacle for fans across the country.
