The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has announced that the government has secured GH₵110 million to fund the nationwide implementation of the Adwumawura Programme this year.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, the Minister said the allocation—approved by the Ministry of Finance under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama—underscores the administration’s commitment to job creation and youth entrepreneurship.

“In further demonstration of the government’s unwavering support for youth empowerment, an amount of GH₵110 million has been allocated this year for the nationwide rollout of the Adwumawura Programme,” Mr. Opare Addo stated. “This financial backing sends a strong message that we are not merely announcing intentions—we are investing in the future of young people and resetting the country.”

Launched by President Mahama on April 28 at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, the Adwumawura Programme is a flagship initiative designed to combat youth unemployment and promote innovation-driven entrepreneurship.

The programme aims to create, mentor, and support at least 10,000 youth-led businesses annually, focusing on young Ghanaians between the ages of 18 and 35. Participants will benefit from tailored support, including, Entrepreneurship training, Access to startup capital, Provision of equipment and Long-term business mentorship.

Mr. Opare Addo emphasized that the programme is not just about providing temporary employment, but about building sustainable, growth-oriented enterprises that contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s economy.

“This initiative goes beyond job creation. It is about unlocking the potential of our youth, building resilient businesses, and fostering a generation of entrepreneurs who can drive national development,” he said.

The Adwumawura Programme is part of a broader national agenda to harness the energy and innovation of Ghana’s young population to address structural unemployment and stimulate inclusive economic growth.
