Chairman of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has indicated that Ghanaians should prepare for a possible 30 to 40 percent increase in statutory fees as part of measures expected to be outlined in today’s Mid-Year Budget Review.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 23, the Okaikwei Central MP disclosed that the proposed fee adjustments are part of new Regulations scheduled to be laid before Parliament by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson.

“Ghanaians should expect a 30% to 40% increase in fees, as proposed in the new fees Regulations set to be laid before Parliament tomorrow by the Minister for Finance. The proposal is currently before the Subsidiary Legislation Committee for pre-laying consideration,” he wrote.

The announcement comes as government prepares to present the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review, which will assess fiscal performance in the first half of the year and outline revised strategies for achieving economic recovery under the ongoing IMF-supported programme.

The proposed fee hike is part of broader efforts to strengthen domestic revenue mobilisation, enhance efficiency in public expenditure, and maintain macroeconomic stability.

Today’s budget review is expected to address key areas such as tax performance, public spending, debt servicing, and potential adjustments to existing levies and charges.

If approved, the new fees could affect a wide range of government services and transactions, making affordability a central concern for many citizens already grappling with inflation and cost-of-living pressures.
