Jannik Sinner produced a ruthless performance to sweep aside a struggling Novak Djokovic in straight sets and reach his first Wimbledon final, setting up a mouthwatering clash with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz.
The world No. 1 dispatched Djokovic 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 under the Centre Court roof, ending the Serbian’s hopes of an eighth Wimbledon crown. Sinner, 23, looked sharp throughout, while Djokovic never looked fully fit.
The 38-year-old took a medical timeout after the second set to treat his left leg. He briefly led 3-0 in the third but faded quickly as Sinner took six of the next seven games.
Sinner acknowledged Djokovic’s condition but stayed focused. “We all saw, especially in the third set, that he was a bit injured,” he said. “He’s been in a very difficult situation.”
It was the Italian’s fourth straight Grand Slam final, a remarkable rise since winning his first major at the US Open last year. He also won the Australian Open in January before falling to Alcaraz in five sets in the French Open final.
That Paris classic now sets the stage for Sunday’s rematch. Alcaraz, 22, beat Taylor Fritz earlier in the day 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(6) to book his spot in the final.
Sinner and Alcaraz have split their last four Grand Slam meetings. This final will be their biggest showdown yet.
Djokovic, meanwhile, waved to fans and gave a thumbs-up as he exited. It marked his third straight Slam exit in the semifinals.
The match confirmed a clear shift in tennis. Alcaraz and Sinner now dominate the men’s game, with one of them winning the last six majors.
