Premier League referee David Coote’s appointment has been terminated by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) following a thorough investigation into his conduct. The 42-year-old official was suspended on November 11 pending a full investigation after a video surfaced allegedly showing him making derogatory comments about Liverpool and former manager Jurgen Klopp.

A further investigation was launched after photos were published, appearing to show Coote sniffing a white powder through a rolled-up US bank note during the European Championship. The PGMOL deemed Coote’s actions “untenable” and terminated his employment.

Coote has refereed 112 Premier League games, and has been a highly-rated video assistant referee (VAR). However, his conduct has led to his dismissal, with the PGMOL stating that his actions breached his employment contract.

The investigation began on November 11, after the video criticizing Liverpool and Klopp surfaced. Two days later, further allegations emerged, prompting the PGMOL to take additional action. Coote was also investigated by the FA and Uefa.

The PGMOL emphasized its commitment to Coote’s welfare, while also acknowledging his right to appeal the decision. Coote has denied any wrongdoing in relation to the allegations.
