Abdul-Rasheed Saminu from Ghana is heading to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the men’s 200m event after posting a time of 20.12s to secure 3rd place at the NCAA championships in Eugene, Oregon on Friday night.
The University of South Florida student delivered an impressive performance in lane 8, setting a new school record and grabbing the bronze medal in the race.
Saminu had already qualified for the final with a time of 20.30s the previous night.
His 20.12s time not only earned him a spot at the Olympics but also surpassed the entry standard of 20.16s for the 200m event.
Saminu made history by becoming the first Ghanaian athlete to qualify for the games in an individual event, preceding his compatriot, Rose Yeboah, who secured her ticket just a day later.
