Asante Kotoko extended their impressive revival with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Karela United at Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The victory, secured by Captain Justice Blay’s second-half penalty, propelled the Porcupine Warriors to the top of the league table.

After a difficult start to the season, in which they failed to win any of their first five matches, including four consecutive losses,Kotoko were written off by many as title contenders.

However, they have since turned their form around dramatically, winning six of their last seven matches to reclaim the league summit.

Despite having 57% possession, Kotoko found it tough to break down Karela’s resilient defence.

They registered six goal attempts, but only two were on target, reflecting the tight nature of the game.

Blay’s decisive penalty came in the 60th minute after Baba Yahaya was fouled in the box, with Karela again contributing to their own undoing.

Karela, who remain at the foot of the table, managed just one shot on target and struggled to create meaningful opportunities.

With their situation growing increasingly dire, they must improve quickly to avoid relegation.

The win sees Kotoko move one point clear at the top and they will look to maintain their momentum when they face Nsoatreman next.

Karela, meanwhile, will host Berekum Chelsea in a crucial match as they fight for survival.

This latest victory highlights Kotoko’s determination to challenge for the title and silences the early-season doubters with a remarkable resurgence.
