The Detroit Pistons have added veteran point guard Dennis Schröder in a complex, multi-team trade that also sent Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors. Schröder, who has now played for eight NBA teams, arrives in Detroit as they push for a crucial playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Schröder’s journey this season has been anything but steady. The 30-year-old German guard began the campaign with the Brooklyn Nets before being traded to Golden State in December. Just weeks later, he was rerouted to Utah as part of the blockbuster deal that brought Butler to the Warriors. Now, in yet another twist, Schröder finds himself in Detroit, where he is expected to serve as a key backup to All-Star Cade Cunningham.

Schröder has been a reliable contributor this season, averaging 14.4 points, 5.5 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game. His ability to push the tempo and provide veteran leadership could prove invaluable for the Pistons (25-26), who sit just one game behind Miami for the No. 6 seed in the East.

The trade also involved KJ Martin, who was briefly in Detroit’s possession after arriving from Philadelphia. He now heads to the Utah Jazz alongside a second-round pick, bolstering a frontcourt featuring Lauri Markkanen and John Collins. Meanwhile, Lindy Waters III joins the Pistons as part of the deal.

For Detroit, Schröder’s arrival adds playoff experience to a young core eager to make a statement. As the postseason race intensifies, his presence could be the boost the Pistons need to break through.
