Thibaut Courtois may be a giant in goal, but his next dream lies on the track. The Real Madrid keeper has revealed his ambitions to take his motorsport team, TC Racing, up the ladder to Formula 2 and maybe even race in GT3 himself one day.

The 33-year-old Belgian, currently recovering from injury, is already planning for life after football. He attended last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, a circuit close to his heart, and shared details of his motorsport journey with broadcaster Sporza.

TC Racing, founded by Courtois in 2023, is already making strides in Formula 4. “We’re currently racing in Formula 4 in Spain,” he said. “But next year we plan to move up to Eurocup-3. The long-term dream is Formula 3 and then Formula 2.”

The Madrid shot-stopper knows it won’t be easy. “It involves more than I had initially thought,” he admitted. “There’s a lot of logistics. But we had a decent first season, and this year is going even better. We’re still aiming higher.”

Courtois’s love for racing goes back to childhood. A devoted Ferrari fan, he grew up watching Formula 1 and idolising Michael Schumacher. Over the years, his fandom evolved into action.

He even considered sponsoring a Formula E team before deciding to build his own. That decision has blossomed into a full-time passion. He now follows F1, MotoGP, and attends Grands Prix whenever possible.

Away from the pitch, Courtois is no stranger to business. In addition to TC Racing, he co-owns esports outfit DUX Gaming. Yet it’s racing that excites him the most, especially the thought of driving competitively one day.

“When I stop playing football, I’d love to try GT3,” he said. “But I don’t know if I’m good enough. I don’t want to be three seconds slower than the rest.”

His towering 6’7” frame also poses a problem. “I don’t fit in a formula car. My head sticks out above the halo, so it wouldn’t be safe.”

Even as he chases a fourth LaLiga title with Madrid and with a new contract reportedly running until 2027, Courtois is quietly preparing for life in a different fast lane.
