Carlos Alcaraz, the 21-year-old Spanish sensation, delivered a breakthrough performance in Rotterdam. Battling both a physical chill and a formidable opponent, Alcaraz overcame adversity to secure his first ATP Tour title on an indoor court—a feat that promises to reshape his future in the indoor circuit.

In a riveting three-set showdown, Alcaraz recovered from a flat second set to defeat Australia’s Alex De Minaur 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. The match’s defining moment came in the decider when a sharply executed return game at 4-2 paved the way for a decisive break.

Despite the challenges posed by indoor conditions—a setting historically testing for his serve—Alcaraz’s improved first serve and resolute defensive play won him 55 percent of points from the baseline in the final set.

“Coming here, let’s say not feeling 100 percent well with the cold, everyday I’m feeling better and better,” he admitted on court, shedding the pink nasal strip that had accompanied him to Rotterdam. His candid acknowledgment of discomfort only highlighted the grit behind his triumph.

De Minaur, who had been in superb form throughout the tournament and won his previous matches in straight sets, appeared to succumb to fatigue, ultimately unable to match the Spaniard’s relentless energy.
