Malen’s career trajectory is one of steady progression. A graduate of Ajax’s fabled academy, he moved to Arsenal at just 16, learning his craft in the Premier League’s youth ranks. It was at PSV Eindhoven, however, where he truly found his stride, racking up 79 goal contributions in 116 appearances before earning a big move to Dortmund in 2021.

Villa boss Unai Emery hinted at the balance this transfer brings, with forward Jaden Philogene reportedly nearing a move to Ipswich Town. “It’s a clear change. One player leaving, one player joining us,” Emery remarked during a pre-match press conference.

Malen’s arrival adds firepower to a Villa squad already pushing for European qualification and competing in the Europa Conference League. His ability to play across the front line complements the pace and physicality of Ollie Watkins and Moussa Diaby, giving Villa a multidimensional attack.
