Amongst the razor-thin margins in one of the qualifiers’ most storied matches in the lips of Ghanaians, heroes are born.

The new Lyon star Ernest Nana Nuamah is the latest to anoint himself saviour as Ghana secured their qualification to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-1 victory over Central African Republic, electrifying the Baba Yara crowd with his well-calculated tap-in in the second half after a poor first-half performance.

Black Stars qualify for their 10th successive AFCON tournament after their unbeaten streak in Group E of the qualifying rounds on Thursday evening.

It was in no doubt the Black Stars would get the nod ahead of their opponents after their brilliant performance at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium this year.

The two sides sat level in the entire first half, after Mohammed Kudus cancelled Louis Mafouta’s opener with a brilliant free kick just before the halftime whistle. Ghana and CAR had possession of 56% and 44% respectively.

Up stepped Ernest Nana Nuamah and Antoine Semenyo after being substituted in for Osman Bukari and Inaki Williams in the 63rd and 69th minutes of the game, who gave Ghana all three points.

It was a deserved victory for the hosts who controlled the match most of the way to the final whistle. Great victory for Chris Hughton’s men as they look forward to their friendly against Liberia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 12.
