In presenting a global music icon to the Ghanaian audience, Silverbird Cinemas Ghana displayed their prowess in the film and entertainment space by pulling out all the stops at the recent premiere of Bob Marley: One Love. The entire cinema entrance was decked in red, yellow, green and black; colours closely related to the Rastafarian culture. Sound speakers and vinyl discs littered the red-carpet area which was soon flooded by celebrities and VIPs who wanted a first look at Marley’s biopic.
Starting with red-carpet interviews and then a gradual shift to pre-film finger foods, many in attendance were wowed by the setting and had much to say about the influence of Bob Marley on their lives. In an interview with MX24 TV, Okatakyie Ababio Boakye Danquah II, the Honorary Consul of Jamaica to Ghana, spoke dearly about the reggae icon.
“Bob was a legend and everything that Bob stood for is what we are all aspiring for now in life; unity, transparency and fairness”, he said. Going on to highlight the notions of black consciousness and excellence in his music and life, he added that he felt “Bob wanted the black man to be in control of his own affairs. All of his songs highlighted that fact and that’s why Bob is my hero.”
In attendance on the night were Epixode, Ivy Prosper, the owners of celebrated Jamaican restaurant JamRock, Daddy Bosco (President of the Rastafarian Council of Ghana, Ameyaw Debrah, Essilfie, DSL, and renowned recording artistes and media personalities.
