Morocco booked its place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals with a commanding 3–0 victory over co-host Canada in Houston on Saturday. The result marks Morocco’s second consecutive appearance in the tournament’s last eight and ends Canada’s historic World Cup campaign.

After a competitive first half in which Canada created several chances, Morocco took control following the break. Midfielder Azzedine Ounahi opened the scoring in the 50th minute with a well-worked free-kick routine before adding his second goal in the 82nd minute during a swift counterattack. Substitute Soufiane Rahimi sealed the win with a stoppage-time goal.

Canada, one of the tournament’s co-hosts, impressed throughout the competition by earning its first World Cup point, first tournament victory, and first appearance in the knockout stage. However, Morocco’s clinical finishing and defensive resilience proved decisive in the Round of 16 encounter.

Morocco will face the winner of the Round of 16 match between France and Paraguay in the quarterfinals on July 9 as the Atlas Lions continue their pursuit of another deep World Cup run.
