Maltiti Foundation Strongly Condemns Child Marriage

The Maltiti Foundation is deeply disturbed by the recent news reports alleging the marriage of a 12-year-old girl to a 63-year-old chief in Ghana. Child marriage is a horrific violation of human rights, robbing girls of their childhood, education, and future.

We commend the Ghana Police Service for its swift action in rescuing the young girl and her mother and urge a thorough investigation to ensure the girl’s safety and well-being, and to hold those responsible accountable if the allegations prove true.

Child marriage is a persistent challenge in Ghana, and eradicating it requires a united front. We call on all stakeholders, including government agencies, traditional authorities, civil society organizations, and communities, to work collaboratively to enforce existing laws against child marriage and educate communities about the devastating consequences of child marriage.

The Maltiti Foundation remains committed to empowering women and girls in Ghana. We urge everyone to join us in demanding an end to this harmful practice.

Together, we can create a future where every girl has the opportunity to reach her full potential.

The End.

Ewura Adams Karim
Executive Director.
