Veteran Actor William “Akpatse” Addo Passes Away at 74

One of Ghana’s most celebrated actors, William Addo, popularly known as Akpatse, has passed away peacefully on 22nd November 2025 after years of battling serious health challenges.

Mr. Addo’s illustrious career spanned several decades, earning him national acclaim as an actor, lecturer, director, and cultural advocate.

He became a household name through his unforgettable performances on GTV’s Thursday Theatre and numerous other productions, where his distinctive style and comic brilliance endeared him to audiences across the country.

A consummate professional, Mr. Addo studied Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Ghana before pursuing a master’s degree in Acting and Directing at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.

Beyond his iconic on-screen roles, he served in key leadership positions, including Director at the National Theatre and Director of Programmes at the National Commission on Culture.

He also lectured in the Theatre Arts Department, where he mentored many of Ghana’s celebrated actors and creatives.

In his later years, Mr. Addo battled significant health issues, including visual impairment caused by glaucoma and cataracts. Despite these challenges, he remained a revered figure in Ghana’s creative arts space, leaving behind a rich legacy of excellence, mentorship, and cultural impact.
