Stefanos Tsitsipas triumphed in the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships, securing his first ATP 500 title with a dominant straight-set victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The 26-year-old Greek star produced a solid performance to defeat the in-form Canadian 6-3, 6-3 in just 1 hour and 28 minutes.
Tsitsipas, the fourth seed, had previously reached the final of the prestigious tournament twice, only to fall short against Novak Djokovic in 2019 and Roger Federer in 2020.
However, on Saturday, he claimed his 12th tour-level title and the biggest outdoor hard-court trophy of his career. This victory also propelled Tsitsipas back into the top 10 of the ATP rankings for the first time since May 2024.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, at 24, has had an impressive season, leading the ATP Tour with 16 match wins and two titles. Nevertheless, he was no match for Tsitsipas in the final, who dominated from start to finish.
“It’s a big relief that I’m able to hold that trophy after the third attempt,” Tsitsipas said after his victory. “It’s something that I had in the back of my mind, and I’m happy to say I accomplished it.
To be owning a spot in the top 10 is definitely one of the greatest feelings a tennis player can experience. It comes with hard work and sacrifices, but I’m happy that I’m in a position where I can really celebrate.”
Tsitsipas’ triumph in Dubai marks a significant milestone in his career, solidifying his status as one of the top players on the ATP Tour.
The win not only gives him a prestigious ATP 500 title but also restores him to the top 10 in the world rankings, showcasing his continued growth and resilience.
