The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a 1.14% increase in electricity tariffs for the fourth quarter of 2025, effective October 1, 2025.
Water tariffs, however, will remain unchanged during the period. In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 23, the Commission explained that the adjustment was made under its Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism, which ensures that utility tariffs reflect key economic changes beyond the control of service providers.
According to the PURC, the slight increase in electricity tariffs was necessary to account for the depreciation of the Cedi and ongoing inflationary pressures.
The review took into consideration several economic variables, including a projected weighted average exchange rate of GHC12.37 to the US dollar, an annual average domestic inflation rate of 12.43% for the quarter, and a steady weighted average cost of natural gas at $7.71 per MMBtu.
The generation mix remains unchanged, with 28.8% from hydro sources and 71.2% from thermal power.
The Commission emphasized that these regular tariff reviews are essential to maintaining the financial viability of utility service providers, enabling them to continue delivering reliable services to consumers.
As a result, electricity consumers will see marginal increases in their bills from October 1, while water tariffs remain the same.
