President John Dramani Mahama has extended heartfelt appreciation to 13 residents of Sikaman-Brofoyedu for their courageous role in retrieving the bodies of eight officials who perished in the military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
Representing the President, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah visited the community on Wednesday, August 27, to deliver the message of gratitude and present a support package on behalf of the government.
The tragic incident occurred in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve, located in the Adansi Akrofrom District, and claimed the lives of several senior government officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. The officials were on official duty at the time of the crash.
Conveying the President’s message, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah said, “The President has asked me to represent him and thank the residents who helped us recover the bodies of our eight men. We have a plaque for all of you in honour of what you did.”
As a token of the nation’s appreciation, President Mahama donated GH¢100,000 to the 13 rescuers and an additional GH¢20,000 to the Adansi Traditional Council to support related cultural rites.
In recognition of their bravery and service, all 13 individuals involved in the recovery operation will be offered employment opportunities aligned with their skills and experience. Furthermore, President Mahama has pledged to invest in the community’s development, beginning with the rehabilitation of local roads and infrastructure improvements.
The gesture has been widely welcomed as a meaningful acknowledgment of the selfless actions of the Sikaman-Brofoyedu residents during one of the most devastating national tragedies in recent memory.
