The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 26 individuals for brandishing and indiscriminately firing toy guns in a public space.
According to a statement issued by the Police, the suspects are currently assisting with investigations and will be arraigned to face justice. As part of the investigation, several toy guns were confiscated from the suspects.
The Police noted that special operations are ongoing to arrest others involved in the growing trend of using toy guns irresponsibly in public spaces, which has been observed in certain parts of the country.
They further cautioned the youth to refrain from such acts, highlighting that it constitutes “offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace,” a violation under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and order, emphasizing that such behaviors will not be tolerated.
“We would like to once again assure the public that the Police will do all that it takes for our beloved country to continue to be at peace with herself,” the statement concluded.
