A high-level delegation comprising leaders of Parliament and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) paid a solemn visit to the family of the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, Member of Parliament for Akwatia, on Tuesday, July 8, to offer condolences following his sudden passing.

The delegation, led by Clerk to Parliament Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, included both Majority and Minority Leaders, as well as other prominent MPs and senior party officials. Their presence reflected the deep sense of loss felt across the political divide and the high regard in which the late MP was held.

The group met with grieving family members at the Kumi residence, where they extended heartfelt sympathies and signed a book of condolence opened in his honour.

The atmosphere at the family home was one of shared sorrow and quiet remembrance. Mourners—many dressed in traditional black and red mourning attire—embraced each other, shared memories, and wept over the loss of a promising leader whose parliamentary journey had only just begun.

Friends and constituents clutched personal items and photos of the late MP, some offering prayers and others simply reflecting on his life of public service. Kumi, who was widely described as warm, dedicated, and community-driven, had become a rising figure in the NPP before his untimely death.

The book of condolence remains open to the public, allowing Ghanaians from all walks of life to pay tribute to his legacy and honour the impact he made during his brief but inspiring tenure in Parliament.

The Parliament of Ghana has already suspended proceedings in honour of the late MP, with tributes continuing to pour in from across the country.
