The Parliamentary Service has formally notified the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacancy in the Kpandai Constituency following a High Court ruling mandating a re-run of the 2024 Parliamentary Elections in the area.
The notification, dated December 4, 2025, marks the official start of the administrative process required to organise the fresh poll.
The letter, addressed to EC Chairperson Mrs. Jean Mensa, was issued and signed by Clerk to Parliament Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror. It cites the powers and duties of the Clerk under Article 112(5) of the 1992 Constitution, which requires that when a parliamentary seat becomes vacant, the EC must be formally notified and elections conducted within 90 days, unless the vacancy occurs within three months before the dissolution of Parliament.
The notification follows the High Court, Tamale’s ruling on November 24, 2025, in Suit Number NR/TL/HC/E13/22/25, which found irregularities in the 2024 Kpandai Parliamentary Elections sufficient to nullify the previous result. The court directed a re-run to ensure that the constituents of Kpandai have a representative in Parliament.
Given the December 4 notification, the EC is now expected to organise the re-run by early March 2026. The commission is also anticipated to announce a timetable outlining nomination deadlines and the exact date for the election in the coming weeks.
The Kpandai Constituency, located in the Northern Region, is now the focus of intense political and legal attention. The re-run is expected to attract significant engagement from major political parties, as the outcome could influence the balance of power in Parliament.
Authorities and stakeholders stress that the upcoming election is a critical opportunity for constituents to exercise their democratic right to select a legitimate representative and restore full parliamentary representation for the area.
