Acting Defence Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has honoured the memory of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, describing him as a dedicated patriot whose leadership was driven by service to the nation and the professional development of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Speaking at the inaugural annual public lecture in Dr. Omane Boamah’s honour on Tuesday, August 4, Dr. Forson said the late minister’s tenure was marked by efforts to modernise the military and improve the welfare of officers and soldiers.
According to him, Dr. Omane Boamah’s leadership reflected a deep commitment to strengthening national institutions and placing Ghana’s interests above all else.
“He served Ghana with conviction. He strengthened our institutions. He believed in leadership anchored in service and the national interest. As Minister for Defence, he worked to build a modern, professional, and capable Ghana Armed Forces. He focused and placed great importance on the welfare of our service personnel.”
Dr. Forson added that the annual memorial lecture would serve as a platform to preserve the late minister’s legacy while inspiring future generations of public servants to uphold the values of integrity, patriotism and selfless leadership.
Dr. Omane Boamah was among eight people who died in the Ghana Air Force Z-9EH helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, while on an official trip to the Ashanti Region.
Others who lost their lives in the tragedy were Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Sarpong; National Democratic Congress National Vice Chairman, Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flight Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah of the Ghana Air Force.
The maiden public lecture forms part of ongoing efforts to commemorate Dr. Omane Boamah’s life and contributions to public service while promoting the ideals that defined his leadership.
