A student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School is demanding justice after he was violently attacked during a district inter-schools athletics competition in Agona Swedru, Central Region.

The victim, identified as Fiadzigbe, sustained a broken tooth and multiple facial injuries after he was allegedly pelted with stones and assaulted during the sporting event. A widely circulated video of the incident shows the student under attack as panic erupts, with other students fleeing the scene.

Recounting the incident, Fiadzigbe said he did nothing to provoke the assault, explaining that the violence erupted suddenly and without warning.

“They threw a stone at me when I was looking for a place to sit so that I could use the medicine on my eye. I didn’t do anything. I was just standing there,” he said.

He added that he initially did not understand what was happening until the stones struck him.

“When I turned, I saw my colleagues running, but I didn’t know what was happening. By the time I realised, the stones came to hit me,” he recounted.

The attack was allegedly carried out by students of Swedru School of Business during the competition.

The Ghana Police Service has since arrested three students in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing.

In separate statements, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education condemned the violence, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship. Both institutions have called for those responsible to face the full rigours of the law.

Following the incident, all ongoing inter-school sporting activities in the Central Region have been suspended pending further review and the implementation of enhanced security measures.
