The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah, has announced that the party will hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.

This decision follows the National Council’s adoption of a proposal from the party’s constitution review committee.

Speaking on the matter, Mr. Koduah clarified that the date for the primaries will not require further approval from the party’s delegates conference, as the National Council has already exercised its mandate in finalizing the timeline.

“The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the date that we shall hold our presidential primaries,” he stated. “Because there is going to be a proposal or motion for amendment of our constitution, a planning committee has been put in place.”

In preparation for the broader constitutional amendments, a nine-member committee led by former Bekwai MP Joseph Osei Owusu has been constituted to plan the party’s national delegates conference, scheduled for July 2025. The conference is expected to deliberate and adopt further recommendations from the ongoing constitution review process.
