The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly denied reports that it contracted a Ukrainian public relations firm, Brandcom, to carry out an online smear campaign ahead of Ghana’s 2024 general elections.

In an official statement issued on Saturday, August 3, the NPP described the allegations—originally published by AllAfrica.com—as “completely false, baseless, and defamatory.” The report claimed that Brandcom is demanding $280,000 from the party for alleged services involving the creation of fake social media accounts and the dissemination of smear content against political opponents.

“The NPP has no contractual relationship—past or present—with any entity known as Brandcom, based in Ukraine or elsewhere,” the statement said. Signed by the party’s National Communications Directorate, it characterized the publication as an attempt to “tarnish the image of the party and sow public distrust.”

The NPP further stated that it has never authorized any foreign agency to engage in unethical digital tactics or political propaganda. According to the party, its campaigns have always been conducted with integrity, transparency, and a commitment to democratic values.

Rejecting what it called “unsubstantiated claims,” the party warned that it is considering legal action against Brandcom and any media outlet that republishes the report. It also demanded a full retraction from AllAfrica.com.

“We reject any insinuation that undermines our record of issue-based campaigning,” the statement added.

The party reaffirmed its dedication to “building a prosperous Ghana through bold, transparent, and ethical leadership,” and urged both media organizations and the public to remain vigilant against misinformation spread by what it described as “faceless entities.”
