The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially acclaimed Baba Ali Yussif as its Parliamentary Candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Ayawaso East Constituency, slated for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 9, the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the decision followed extensive consultations by the National Executive Committee with key stakeholders to select a consensus candidate with the strongest chance of winning the seat.

According to the statement, a Candidate Search Committee chaired by former NPP General Secretary, John Boadu, undertook wide-ranging engagements with party members and stakeholders within the constituency and across the Greater Accra Region.

The committee, after its deliberations, unanimously recommended Baba Ali Yussif, who currently serves as the Constituency Secretary, describing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the party into the by-election.

The recommendation was subsequently endorsed on Sunday, February 8, 2026, when the party held an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting alongside a Delegates Conference. At the gathering, delegates unanimously acclaimed Baba Ali Yussif as the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso East.

The NPP has since called on its members, supporters, and sympathizers to unite behind Baba Ali Yussif ahead of the by-election. The party also appealed to the people of Ayawaso East to vote for him, expressing confidence that his leadership would help restore hope, effective representation, and development in the constituency.
