The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced the elimination of registration and renewal fees for NHIS subscribers who are contributors to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

Under this new policy, SSNIT contributors will be automatically enrolled in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) using their Ghana Card PIN, bypassing any associated fees.

This initiative is expected to extend healthcare coverage to an additional 1.3 million Ghanaians who, despite being SSNIT contributors, have not yet joined the health insurance scheme.

This policy change aims to reduce barriers to healthcare access, ensuring that more citizens can benefit from the services provided by the NHIS.

Communications Director for the governing New Patriotic Party, Richard Ahiagbah in a post on social media while commending the initiative noted that Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bold solutions will do even more to deepen coverage under the scheme and health outcomes for Ghanaians.

He said “Bawumia’s Bold Solutions,” are designed to make significant strides in various sectors, including healthcare, and this recent development underscores his commitment to ensuring comprehensive health coverage.
