The Deputy Director of Campaigns and Advocacy for the NDC Youth Wing, Reginald Acheisu Boateng, has expressed deep sorrow following the collapse of an uncompleted four-storey building near the Experimental D/A School in Accra Newtown.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, March 29, has claimed three lives, with about 20 others sustaining injuries.
Speaking on the AM Club on MX24 tv, Mr. Boateng extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished those injured a speedy recovery. He described the incident as tragic and emphasized the need for greater attention to building safety and compliance.
“I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the families that have lost loved ones over yesterday’s unfortunate incident. We know that some 3 persons have died with about 20 people injured, we wish those injured a speedy recovery. And to the families, I send out my heartfelt condolences to the family” he said.
“This calls for urgent need for us to investigate public structures across the country. It looks like some agencies are not doing their work – this is an urgent call for them to do their work” he added.
He also commended the swift and dedicated response of emergency teams, highlighting the critical roles played by the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Police Service and volunteers who joined the rescue efforts.
According to him, their timely intervention not only helped rescue survivors but also prevented further loss of life, underscoring the importance of coordinated emergency response in times of crisis.
