President John Dramani Mahama has announced that road contractors who abandoned infrastructure projects across the country will soon return to their sites to complete outstanding works.

The announcement was made during the President’s Eastern Regional Thank You Tour, held at Jackson Park in Koforidua on Sunday. The move follows the completion of an audit of road contracts awarded under the previous administration by the Auditor-General.

“With the Auditor-General’s report now out, we’re sending the contractors back to site,” President Mahama declared. “But those found to have received double payments — from both the Road Fund and the Ministry of Finance — will face punishment.”

The President emphasized that the resumption of stalled road projects is central to his government’s Big Push Agenda, which aims to accelerate infrastructure development nationwide.

He reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring accountability in the use of public funds, promising that any contractor found guilty of financial misconduct would not be spared.

During the event, the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, Nene Sakite II, commended President Mahama for what he called a “promising start” within the first 120 days of his tenure.

“As the saying goes, good is not good enough where better is possible,” Nene Sakite said. “Your leadership must now build on this momentum to bring sustainable development, hope, and prosperity to all Ghanaians.”

He also pledged the support of traditional authorities in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, urging the President to sustain efforts to curb the environmental and social impacts of galamsey.
