The Presidency has commended the long-standing service of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, describing him as a jurist who has demonstrated “diligence and integrity” throughout his judicial career.

The praise was part of an official communique released on Tuesday, which also confirmed his nomination to the Council of State for consideration as Ghana’s next Chief Justice.

According to the statement, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie has “served with diligence and integrity at the High Court, the Court of Appeal, and currently, the Supreme Court,” underscoring his decades-long contribution to the country’s judiciary.

Currently serving as Acting Chief Justice since April 2025, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie is widely regarded within the legal community for his significant contributions to Ghanaian jurisprudence and his reputation for fairness and professionalism.

Born on December 26, 1956, he began his education at Goaso and later attended Konongo Odumase Secondary School, where he obtained both his Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates. He studied law at the University of Ghana and was called to the Bar in 1983 after completing his legal training at the Ghana Law School.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s judicial career spans several decades, having served as a Circuit Court Judge in Kumasi, a High Court Judge at Duayaw Nkwanta, and later an Appeals Court Judge before ascending to the Supreme Court.

His nomination comes in the wake of the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office on grounds of stated misbehaviour.
