Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams played a pivotal role in Athletic Bilbao’s emphatic 7-1 victory over Real Valladolid in La Liga on Sunday, February 23.
Williams scored once and provided an assist in the dominant win at San Mamés, keeping his side’s top-four hopes alive.
The Williams brothers were in fine form with Nico Williams assisting Mikel Jauregizar for the opening goal after just 10 minutes.
Nico then turned scorer 25 minutes later, finishing off a cross from Yuri Berchiche. Maroan Sannadi and Oihan Sancet added two more goals, making it 4-0 by halftime.
After the break, Valladolid pulled one back through Mamadou Sylla, but their hopes were dashed when Stanko Juric was sent off for a second yellow card.
Nico Williams scored his second of the game in the 66th minute to restore Athletic’s four-goal advantage.
Just three minutes later, Inaki Williams set up Gorka Guruzeta to make it 6-1, and Inaki sealed the scoreline by rounding off the Valladolid goalkeeper to score his own goal, making it 7-1.
With his goal and assist, Inaki has now been involved in 13 goals this season, scoring five and providing eight assists.
This remarkable performance not only boosted Athletic Bilbao’s chances of securing a top-four finish but also highlighted the growing impact of the Williams brothers in La Liga.
