Hearts of Oak were knocked out of the FA Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout loss to lower-division side Golden Kicks FC in the round of 16.
Both teams approached the game cautiously, with a focus on possession and controlling the ball early on.
Hearts of Oak had a promising chance in the 18th minute when Michael Ampadu sent a brilliant pass to Kwabena Boateng at the far post, but Boateng failed to convert from close range.
Golden Kicks also had a chance to take the lead, stringing together a series of passes in Hearts of Oak’s half. However, Owusu Dacosta fired wide of the crossbar.
Just before halftime, Mawuli Wayo won a free-kick on the edge of the box.
Michael Ampadu took the shot, but Golden Kicks’ goalkeeper Kelvin Saaba made a crucial save to deny him.
In the second half, Hearts of Oak were dealt a blow when Theophilus Collinson received his second yellow card in the 64th minute, leaving his team a man down.
Despite both teams coming close to finding the net, regulation time ended without any goals.
Golden Kicks stunned Hearts of Oak by converting 4 penalties to Hearts’ 3, sending the lower-division side through to the next round.
