Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has assured the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of comprehensive security arrangements for its presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
He disclosed that a minimum of 70 police officers will be deployed to each polling centre nationwide to ensure a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process.
The IGP made the assurance while addressing party leaders and aspirants at the Peace Pact signing ceremony involving the five NPP flagbearer hopefuls in Accra on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Mr Yohuno explained that the Ghana Police Service has taken steps to strengthen security arrangements in sensitive areas, revealing that a formal request has been made through the Minister for the Interior to secure military support in the Bawku area.
According to him, the police will take full charge of security operations across the country, with the military placed on standby where necessary, except in Bawku, where additional military presence may be required.
“We have adequate police personnel deployed across the country, with the exception of Bawku, where military support may be needed,” the IGP said.
He further noted that senior police officers will be stationed at polling centres to supervise operations and ensure strict enforcement of law and order throughout the exercise.
