The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has deployed a special security team to Gbenyiri in the Savannah Region following reprisal attacks reported in the community.

In a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service Regional Headquarters in Damongo on March 11, 2026, the police said the deployment was triggered by clashes between some Birifor and Fulani residents in the town.

According to the statement, the team—comprising intelligence officers and investigators—has been tasked to support the regional command in intensifying security operations and identifying those responsible for the attacks.

The police explained that the operation is aimed at restoring order in the area and ensuring that perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.

The Savannah Regional Police Command further assured the public that calm has been restored in Gbenyiri, adding that efforts are ongoing to track down individuals behind the incidents.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel as investigations continue.
